The splendor returns to Hagia Sophia

The lovers of architecture and art of the always fascinating Istanbul are in luck. After 17 years of work, the restoration of the Basilica of Saint Sophia, the greatest jewel of Byzantine art, ends.

The main work has been to clean 600 square meters of mosaics and the dome. During these 17 years, workers and artisans repaired the dome of 31.3 meters in diameter and the golden calligraphy that covers it. The face of one of the angels located in the enormous pendentives on which it rests has also been discovered.

At last the scaffolding and the dust are over, and walking through it returns to delight us with one of the emblems of Mediterranean art. To enjoy it again travelers !!!
